A Family Garden
About the design
Before the work began the garden was mainly laid to lawn, with a few shrubs around the boundaries. The clients liked the existing patio to the rear of the house, but wanted another seating area in a sunnier position. They also had a large trampoline for their daughters, and wanted to be able to move to different parts of the lawn. A water feature was also required, so that they could keep fish.
The lawn was reduced in size and reshaped into a more sinuous outline, whilst retaining plenty of room for the girls’ trampoline. The generous borders around the lawn have been planted with a mixture of shrubs, perennials and grasses to soften the boundaries and provide year-round interest. A new circular seating area was constructed in the sunniest corner of the garden, with a quadrant pool to the front crossed by a decking bridge. A large ornamental pot, a specimen tree and an arbour provide new focal points around the garden.
